Abstract

Malignant tumors in childhood, although rare, represent the third leading cause of child mortality worldwide. Among them, Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common sarcoma in children and is characterized as a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm with skeletal muscle differentiation. Approximately 40% of cases occur in the head and neck region, emphasizing the essential role of dental professionals in diagnosis and long-term management. This research aimed to present a case study that addressed clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic aspects and dental implications of RMS. The findings show that early diagnosis remains a challenge and that treatment is multimodal, involving surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. However, adverse effects of these therapies can lead to severe dental alterations such as hypoplasia, root resorption, agenesis, and premature tooth loss, compromising oral function and esthetics. Interdisciplinary collaboration and continuing education of dental professionals are fundamental for the management and prevention of oral complications resulting from oncological therapy. It is concluded that awareness and continuous dental follow-up are crucial to preserve the quality of life of pediatric patients with RMS.
